Derry is short for Derringer, which is a "little pistol". I did warn his new owners to be careful what you name him! I think Derry is more like a small cannon though, because wow does he come out with force! Initially sold as a pet and hunting companion because I was unsure to how big he would get and he didn't quite have the moderation I was looking for in a show puppy (even though he was quite stunning!) Fate has a way of making things that were meant to be come into being and though he's certainly a big boy, he isn't a overly tall boy, measuring just 20" tall at the withers. In addition to that when I saw him again at his full height a quick glance told me he wasn't as extreme in the rear as he was as a small puppy, taking after his father's side in how he matured. Lucky for me his owners are always up for anything that involves their fuzzy little boy and into the show ring he went. Owner-handled and both as wet behind the ears as you can get, Derry won a Reserve to the 5 point major at just his second show. Handled by a junior at his third show he surprised us all and beat out four specials for Best of Breed and his first two points. Derry shows no signs of slowing down and he's the spitting image of his grandfather Morgan, who has a special place in my heart.
